Black screen
Click the panel to fill your screen with pure black (#000000). On an OLED display every pixel switches off.
What people use it for
Hide your screen
Leave the display on but showing nothing — between slides, while music plays, or when you step away.
Find stuck pixels
Stuck and hot pixels show up as bright dots on black. Check every corner from your usual distance.
Spot dust and smudges
With the room lights on, dust and fingerprints stand out against black. Wipe with a dry microfiber cloth.
Sleep with audio on
Keep a TV or monitor on for a podcast or rain sounds without lighting the room. Set the timer to exit on its own.

Questions
Is a black screen the same as turning the display off?
Not quite. On OLED, black pixels are off and use almost no power. On LCD the backlight stays on, so black looks dark gray in a dark room.
Does a black screen save battery?
On OLED phones and laptops, yes — black pixels draw almost no power. On an LCD it saves little, because the backlight is still lit.
Why do I still see a glow?
That’s the LCD backlight. Brighter patches at the edges are backlight bleed; you can check them with the dark gray patterns in the screen test.
How do I exit full screen?
Press Esc, or move the mouse and click Exit. On a phone, tap the screen to show the controls.
